Leonhard Weiss GmbH & Co. KG relies on the Euro9000 from ELP, high performance dual mode technology supports future construction projects

Göppingen/Frauenfeld, December 2025

Leonhard Weiss GmbH & Co. KG is expanding its fleet with a Euro9000 locomotive. The procurement is driven by increasing demands in construction projects and the need to carry out transports independently. According to Technical Director Gerald Helleisz, the dual mode locomotive enables operations on routes that could not be served with the previous hybrid locomotive.

The decisive factors for choosing the Euro9000 were its technical performance data and operational flexibility, up to 9 MW of electric power, a powerful diesel module, 20 tonne axle load and 500 kN tractive effort. The locomotive allows complete transport chains without locomotive changes, as it seamlessly switches between electric and diesel operation. This significantly simplifies processes, particularly for heavy construction and ballast trains. Gradient sections such as the Geislinger Steige can be mastered without the need for an additional banking locomotive.

Commissioning is scheduled for January 2026. The decision in favour of ELP was made following a comparison of offers. Key factors were the Full-Service Leasing concept and the existing cooperation with ELP and Stadler. As Leonhard Weiss does not operate extensive in-house maintenance, the structured service package provides a high level of planning security.
